I am so happy to be able to do what I love just about every day! Although I am a lawyer by trade, I blow of steam and stress by making. I make all kinds of things; I'm sort of a jack-of-all-trades.
My Etsy store reflects of my love of all types of crafts, from fine art to magic wands to jewelry. And I love making every one of my pieces!
Do you think you don't have time to do what you love? That is a fallacy. You have to make the time. Yes, there are priorities, and yes, some things have to be ignored at times, but you can do it!
Honestly, you are right to some degree. There isn't time for everything. That's why you have to decide what is important and make time for that. In my house, the cleaning just isn't all that important to me. It is more important to me that my family comes first. Okay, I'm not talking about letting the house go entirely so that we are living in an episode of Hoarders. I'm just saying, the vacuuming doesn't have to be done every day. Even every week.
I learned the technique of prioritizing my life quite accidentally. I made one year the "Year of Me" and made an effort to put myself first. That year, I lost 25 lbs, made an effort to eat healthier, put time into researching healthy meals and exercises. I gave up a little sleep to get up earlier and exercise. And it worked. And nothing else fell apart. I managed to take care of me and still do all the other things that had to be done.
There are times I simply can't do my art or play with my jewelry. Court is a must and it wouldn't go over very well to say, "Sorry, Judge, I'm not ready for trial this week because I wanted to paint." But that doesn't mean that after that week of court is done, I can't take some time to do what matters to me - what I love - and make things!
I must admit that it takes patience, work and understanding from my family. I'm lucky to have that support here at home. The kids find my pieces beautiful and encourage me. My husband is amazing - even coming with me to craft fairs and helping me package things or take packages to the post office.
But there is one other necessary trait in order to survive your goal of doing what you love: humor. You've got to have fun with what you are doing, or it isn't worth it.
On that note, I saw a really funny quote that I'm going to share here in honor of Spring (I'm from the South in the U.S., so this is particularly funny to me):
Pollen: when flowers can't keep it in their plants
Have a great day and see you next time!
